On the 7th of February 2014, the Year 10 General Studies AS Level students were chosen to meet the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg at the British Muslim Heritage Centre.  It was a great experience for us all.

As the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg MP arrived we welcomed him and also had the opportunity to take a few pictures and we were also in a short video which was aired onto Pakistani TV Channel ARY News.

All those in attendance listened to a motivational speech about the policies of the Liberal Democrat party in particular with regards to their support of British Muslims and their views, and how their policies promise that Muslims will be given a say in issues that relate to them particularly.

We sat in the main hall and we had reserved seats on the front row with a very clear view. We got the opportunity to ask Deputy Prime Minster Nick Clegg MP a question about the education sector and his opinions on state schools becoming similar to private schools, including parents then having to pay for their child’s education regardless of financial background. Several other schools also had several questions for Deputy Prime Minster Nick Clegg MP, particularly asking questions regarding young British Muslim girls and how they should protect themselves from the racism and bullying that takes place due to her religion and appearance.

Overall it was an excellent experience and we enjoyed the trip a lot and we were very inspired by the speech that was given by Deputy Prime Minster Nick Clegg MP.

Jazakh’Allah for the British Muslim Heritage Centre for this opportunity.
